Yiannis Arahovitis...
Yiannis Arahovitis was born in Greece in 1960. He studied Psychology and English Literature. He has been working with dogs for more than 20 years by now but he has been living with them all his life.
He has studied animal behavior in Germany (Dortmund), in England (London) and in USA (Chicago) and two of his teachers have been world’s top trainers Bob Bailey (USA) and Turid Rugaas (Norway).His way of training is called “Positive Training” which doesn’t consist of any kind of punishment or threat for the dogs and his company name is StarDogs Positive Training. He is a member of American Pet Dog Trainers (APDT#66102) and Pet Dog Trainers of Europe.
He writes many articles for dog training magazines and various newspapers. He is also a columnist of “The Voice”, the official magazine of the Agility Club of Great Britain. He organizes seminars on Positive Training and his seminars are among the most crowded ones in this field in all Europe. He has a very popular web-site in Greece which can be reached through www.stardogs.gr or www.dogtraining.gr and in Aug 2003, he made his first big step towards international business and started StarDogs-Turkey in Istanbul with a Turkish partner.
He has a Dog Trainers Academy in Athens where he trains the trainers for “Positive Training”. He was the first to establish a Dog Trainers Academy in the Balkans and the first (and still the only one to the day) to organize Agility, Flyball, Dog Dancing courses. He is the advisor of 7 animal rescue organizations in Greece and together with his students work with DI. KE. P.AZ shelter ( a pilot program of 9 municipalities of the Athens Metropolitan area) , a very well organized effort for helping to reduce the problem of stray animals in Greece.
He has trained many dogs for various kinds of shows and this had been center of interest for several times on the Greek televisions and media. He has taught animal care to pupils at schools (American College of Greece) and does a lot of demos at dog shows.
